ACTOR TOOLKIT - DIRECTIONS & ADVICE

ADVICE

Come to the shoot with a positive attitude and try to stay focused on what you want instead of what you don't want. Feel free to voice your concerns throughout the shoot. I have found the best way to voice concerns is by explaining what you like instead of focusing on what you hate. Make sense?

Arrive as if you were going to an audition. Have a good idea of the part(s) you are trying to book. Sometimes it helps to bring in lines of dialogue from scripts that will help you convey a certain intent or attitude in a photo.

Don't Wear Sunglasses before our shoot. It will make your eyes more sensitive to the light and you may squint.

Groom accordingly. Pluck those eyebrows, take a bath, brush your teeth, etc.

If you have asked me to schedule my Make-Up Artist, please arrive without any make-up on and with your hair done the way you would do it for an audition. We will make final adjustments to hair and necessary changes between looks during the shoot.

If you didn't schedule a make-up artist, please come with your hair & make-up done the way you would for an audition. You will have some time for touch ups and changes between looks.

WHAT TO BRING

Music - CDs or MP3 players

Music you enjoy and recognize will help you feel at home and comfortable during the shoot.

Wardrobe:

Please bring PLENTY of options. Bring at least 3 different options for each look (i.e. 3 casual outfits, 3 business outfits, 3 edgy outfits).

Make sure your clothes have been washed, are wrinkle free, and its best if they're on hangers (unless your goal is to look disheveled and sloppy).

Tops - Solid colors work best in my opinion. Layers provide interesting necklines. Bring your favorite tops and jackets. Sometimes stripes, patterns, and logos can be distracting and I'm not a big fan of All White or All Black outfits. That being said, if you have a black, white, or patterned top you love, bring it and we'll see how it looks.

Pants & Shoes - Unless you're asking for 3/4 shots, any clothing options below the waste are unimportant.

If you're having trouble picking out what to wear, please visit my Gallery and look at what people are wearing in the headshots you like. If it means going to the store and buying a new shirt, I'd recommend it. Leave the tags on and you could even return it the next day (insert maniacal laughter here).
